Leading
Manx co-driver Rob Fagg (Port Erin) travels to Carlisle this weekend
for the opening round of the Tesco 99 Octane British Rally
Championship, the Pirelli International Rally. The 26 year old will
partner MSA British Rally Elite member James Wozencroft (Shropshire)
in the Dealer Team Suzuki squad driving a Dunlop Tyres backed Suzuki
Ignis Super 1600.
The
reigning BRC Stars of the Future Champions head into the event on
the back of a successful test run on the Astra Stages back at the
start of April. On that occasion they were able to gain valuable
mileage in the car and evaluate various suspension settings
throughout the day, finishing 9th overall and 1st
in class.
The
opening round of the six round British Championship gets under way
at 8am on Saturday,
with
the
crews heading into the famous Kielder Forest complex to tackle 10
stages totalling
around
71miles
prior to the overnight halt. On Sunday the crews will resume,
competing on a further 44 miles spread over 6 stages with the first

due to be back in Carlisle for the finish at 13:45. Prior to the
event James and Rob will take part in a reconnaissance of the stages
on Friday, where they will make their own pace notes for the event,
something they have only previously done once together.
After a dominant display in last years inaugural Stars series
expectations are bound to be high on the young crew, but Rob knows
it will be tough.

“I
am looking forward to the new season and the graduation into the
full BRC” commented Rob, “It is going to be a tough season for
James and I as we go up against former works Ford driver Roman
Kresta (Fiesta), leading Junior World Rally Championship and Suzuki
works driver Guy Wilks (Ignis), as well as reigning BRC Production
Champion Barry Clark (Fiesta). We are under no illusion that we are
going to have to up our pace this season, but we have a proven car
in the Suzuki Ignis and we hope to improve throughout the season.”
Rob
recently attended the Isle of Man Sports Council awards evening
where he received the Isle of Man Steam Packet Scholarship and
continued support from the Isle of Man Sports Aid Foundation for
2006. This does not just help financially but also with physical
fitness, injury prevention, nutrition to name a few areas.
“The
support I received last year from the Sports Council was valuable in
achieving my goals during 2005” explained Rob, “I hope that the
fitness training programme started in the off season will benefit me
this year and that the continued health screening offered to me will
ensure I am in the best shape for the season.”
