Mewla challenge lies ahead for Fagg

Isle of Man Sports Aid Foundation supported Rob Fagg heads to Wales this weekend to contest the Mewla National Rally alongside fellow Manxman Paul Curphey. The pairing, competing for the first time together, will use Curphey's TaylorClarke backed Mitsubishi Evo 8 on the all tarmac rally which uses the highly challenging roads of the Epynt Military Ranges near Brecon.

Previously Isle of Man Steam Packet Scholarship recipient Fagg has only competed on the ranges twice, both times in a Ford Ka Championship spec car and the last being in 2004. This time round the ride should be a little quicker and Rob hopes that he can assist Paul in his pursuit of the Prima Motorsports MSA Asphalt Rally Championship Group N title.

"Paul has put in some good performances this season and put himself in contention for the Group N title" commented Rob, "He comes into the event on the back of a fine run on Rally Isle of Man, and with previous experience of Epynt earlier in the year we should be able to put in a good run. I hope that will can challenge the class leader for the win and keep Paul's title hopes alive."

The event takes place on Sunday 27th August but prior to that, the crew is to undertake a recce of the stages on the Saturday. This will give Paul and Rob the opportunity to fine tune the pace notes and also give them some valuable time in a car together. The crews will line up at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells at 8am on Sunday morning with twelve stages lying ahead of them. With a total of 80 competitive miles having to be completed before the return to the Showground from approx. 5pm on Sunday afternoon, it is going to be a testing event.

The event marks the start of a busy period for Mexperience.com backed Fagg. He returns to the Island on Monday morning for a short visit before flying off to Ireland on Wednesday (30th) evening to start preparations for the fourth round of the Tesco 99 British Rally Championship, the Ulster International Rally. Following on from that he will then contest the Isle of Man based DUKE Stages (8th-9th Sept), before heading back out to the far east on the 15th to compete alongside former British and World Production Champion Martin Rowe on the third round of the Chinese Rally Championship.

Rob is supported in 2006 by the Isle of Man Sports Aid Foundation, Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, www.mexperience.com , Advanced Autosport Technologies and Robert Graham & Co Chartered Quality Surveyors.
