travels to China, having secured a deal to return to the Chinese
National Rally Championship alongside former British and World
Production Champion, Manxman Martin Rowe. The pair will compete
once again compete for the KST Mitsubishi Rally Team for whom they
narrowly missed out on lifting the teams’ title last year.
Rowe contested the
championship last year, scoring two wins, and was joined by
Mexperience.com backed Rob for the final two rounds of the season.
The pairing finished 3rd on the penultimate round, but were forced
to retire from the final round when they lost all engine cooling
with a holed radiator. Martin and Rob missed the opening round of
the Championship back in March due to the car not being ready in
time for the event, which was won by Scotsman Alistair McRae. McRae
will again provide the main competition to the KST pair along with
another Manxman David Higgins.
With Rowe again
offered the opportunity to compete in the far east, he contacted Rob and a deal was reached between
the two.
"I am thrilled to
be offered the chance to compete again in China
alongside Martin" explained Rob, "When he offered me the opportunity
last year it was a total surprise and a fantastic opportunity for
me. To finish on the podium on our first together after the troubles
we had made it more rewarding and then to be asked back for the
final round boosted my confidence. The level of competition this
year has got higher with Alistair (McRae) and David (Higgins) both
competing along with returning leading Chinese Xu Lang and I am
under no illusion it's going to be tough."
Rob is supported
in 2006 by the Isle of Man Sports Council, Isle of Man Steam
Packet Scholarship and Mexperience.com . A special thanks goes to
Manx Telecom for their continued support, allowing Rob to compete in China.
