Rob returns to BTRDA campaign

Leading Manx co-driver Rob Fagg heads to Ludlow in Shropshire this weekend to resume his BTRDA Silkolene 1400 Championship campaign on the Woodpecker Stages. The Isle of Man Sports Aid Foundation Isle of Man Bank Scholarship recipient will be competing alongside local Ludlow rally ace James Wozencroft in the Thompson Garages run Suzuki Ignis 1400.

The pair this year have been in blistering form winning the opening three rounds of the championship and taking second on the Dukeries Rally back in June to lie in 5th place. They have only been able to compete on these four rounds out of the seven so far due to commitments in the British Rally Championship Stars of the Future Series which they have dominated this year with 4 wins from 4 starts. The young Charlton Arms of Ludlow backed crew are one of three crews that can still win the championship, the others being George Thomas and Malcolm Hague. Thomas currently leads the way having scored on all rounds so far, but is nominating the Woodpecker as his non-scoring event.

"The season so far has gone well for James and I and we are currently still able to win both the BTRDA Championship and the Stars of the Future. George (Thomas) has been flying this year and has scored a good mass of points which means we will have to go for it on the Woodpecker and Plains and hope the results come." explained Rob prior to leaving his Isle of Man home
Thursday evening, "James went really well on this event last year and won the 1400 category, but with the other quick local driver Neil Weaver competing we will have a good fight on our hands. I am really looking forward to getting back in the Suzuki and alongside James."

It has been almost two months since the distinctive yellow Suzuki pairing competed on the Jim Clark Rally, and in that time the Team Thompson mechanics back at the team base in Bedford have been working to repair the car to full health after the hard events it has competed on this year. The main area has been the engine which on inspections appears to have been down on power for the past few events, this issue is now hopefully resolved and so the Ignis should have that bit extra as they push for victory this weekend.

The Woodpecker Stages starts on Saturday morning around 8:30am from Ludlow Racecourse and see the crews head out to tackle 43 competitive miles spread over seven demanding gravel stages, before returning to the Racecourse for the finish around 16:00.

Rob is supported in 2005 by the Isle of Man Sports Council, Manx Motorsport Youth Trust, Isle of Man Bank Scholarship, Integrated Capabilities, Thompson Garages, Dunlop TyresPatterson Pacenotes and www.Mexperience.com
