Rob returns to British scene

Back into the British scene after his trip to China to co-driver for Martin Rowe, Rob will rejoin with Ludlow's James Wozencroft in the Team Thompson Suzuki Ignis this weekend to contest the Trackrod Stars Rally, the penultimate round of the British Rally Championship Stars of the Future series. The pair have a 100 per cent record on the four rounds held thus far.

The Charlton Arms (Ludlow) backed Suzuki underwent a full engine rebuild after dropping a valve on the recent Woodpecker Stages, and the very long straights of the classic Yorkshire stages will certainly test it to the full. Indeed the car little 1360cc car is likely to be on the rev limiter for long stretches.

The young pair go into the event confident of further success, Rob still on a high from his experience in China and James learning from his involvement in the MSA British Rally Elite scheme. Both James and Rob have certainly been learning a lot this year and if they can pull all this together on the day they will e tough to beat.

For the second time this year BTRDA rival Neil Weaver brings his Vauxhall Corsa to the Stars series and will pose the main threat to the Suzuki pair for outright stars victory. Wozie and Rob though will concentrate on class success though with a win being enough to seal them the 2005 crown.

But after the problems experienced last time out they certainly know that things can go wrong and are taking nothing for granted.

"The retirement on the Woodpecker was bitterly disappointing. James won the event last year in convincing style and we hoped to again push for victory, this was not to be the case and we were sidelined after just 3 stages" explained Rob, "The guys down in Bedford have been working hard to resolve the problem and come Saturday it will be down to us to do the job, we will tackle the event in the same was as any other and think about the Championship at the end."

The Trackrod Stars Rally starts at around 10:11 following the main International field through the stages. The crews will tackle 8 stages totalling approximately 62 miles of some of the fastest forest sections in British Rallying, returning to the finish at Pickering Showground around 17:30.

Rob is supported in 2005 by the Isle of Man Sports Council through the Isle of Man Bank Scholarship, Manx Motorsport Youth Trust, Integrated Capabilities, Patterson Pacenotes, Thompson Garages, www.Mexperience.com and Dunlop Tyres
