Isle of Man Bank
Scholarship recipient Rob Fagg looks
to strengthen his position at the top of the British Rally
Championship Stars of the Future tables this weekend when he
travels to Kelso to contest the Jim Clark Stars Rally, round 4 of
the BRC Stars of the Future series. With a hat-trick of wins over
the opening three rounds, Isle of Man Sports Council supported Rob
has an 8 point lead in the overall standings.
Partnering James Wozencroft, who
is making his tarmac debut, in the Team Thompson Suzuki Ignis they
hope to add further points to there respective tally's but a
victory is not the main priority this weekend as Rob explains:
"James is making his closed road
rally debut this weekend and so getting mileage under his belt and
experience of asphalt rallying is more important than pushing for
the win. We have a strong position in the championship at present
and gaining further points is more important. Despite this we will
be driving hard."
On the last round, the Scottish
Stars Rally, the pair steered clear of punctures and took there
third win by almost 4 minutes. One week later on the Dukeries
Rally (a round of the BTRDA Silkolene 1400 Championship) things
did not go as smoothly, a gear selection problem on Stage 1 saw
them drop a chunk of time and just when it looked promising for
them on the final stage an altercation with a post damaged the
rear beam and left them limping to the finish.
The Team Thompson mechanics have
returned the car to 100% and in the process given Rob and James
the best chance of increasing their points haul.
The main event, the Jim
Clark Memorial Rally, starts on Friday evening with the Stars
joining in behind the main field on Saturday morning. The Stars
crews will tackle 65
competitive miles spread over nine
fast asphalt stages,
before returning to Kelso
for the finish in the Town
Centre around 16:45.
