Fan puts Fagg out

It was a disappointing weekend for Integrated Capabilities and Aon (IOM) Ltd supported Rob Fagg who was competing on the Malcolm Wilson Rally alongside Liverpool based Tony Simpson.   Based in Cumbria, the crew faced 45 miles of forest stages with 20 of those being run in the Grizedale complex, in what was planned as a learning event for the team.

The Shropshire Rally School run pairing began the event with the plan of getting some points on the board after missing the opening round of the Championship, and also to build confidence in each other on there first event together, having only met in person Friday morning.

After far from perfect runs over the opening two stages, they both arrived at service happy with their performance on Stage 3.   With the car all checked over and no major problems they set off on the 35-mile road section to tackle the two stages Grizedale had to offer, confident they could post respectable times.

Unfortunately all they would see of Grizedale would be the arrival control for stage 4.   While sitting in the queue to start the stage the engine temperature soared and this caused the car to go into safety mode.   Investigation found the electric cooling fan not to be working and with no immediate fix available they decided to tackle the stage and let the engine cool by the airflow during the stage.   It was apparent as they tried to pull onto the start line though that the car did not have the power to make the climb uphill from the start line.

Despite the retirement both members remained buoyant and are looking forward to the next round of the championship on the 27th March, the North Humberside Forest Rally.
