Manx Young Driver of the Year and Manx Motorsport Youth Trust
recipient George Collister will be hoping to avoid a repeat
of his last event in Wales, when he retired from the Astra Stages in
April after going off the road. At the time he was in close battle
for second place.
Collister
takes his Motivation Engineering backed Ford Escort across the Irish
Sea to contest the Llandrindod Wells based Mutiny Clubmans Rally,
Round 3 of the Kumho Clubman Rally Championship. During
the event crews will tackle over 45 competitive miles with a mixture
of tight and twisty and fast flowing sections where he will rely on
his notes 100%. These will be delivered as usual by Manx
Gas support co-driver Rob Fagg.
Since
the accident on the Astra Stages the car has undergone some major
work as well as its routine maintenance program. The
front of the car has been repaired and sprayed, mechanically the
engine has been rebuilt, as planned at the start of the year and the
gearbox has also been rebuilt due to a cracked casing sustained in
the Astra incident.
The
young Manx pairing are hoping to get their season back on track with
a top five finish, adding to the points scored on the opening round
back in February.
“We were both obviously
very disappointed by the retirement on the last round.
Everything was going well and the conditions really suited my
driving style, I just hope we can get a good result this weekend.”
commented George.
