Collister in Bulldog title decider

Kumho Clubman Championship Contender, Manxman George Collister (Grenaby) competes on the final round of the 2004 championship, the Bulldog Clubman Rally, this weekend (23rd October) knowing that not even victory will guarantee him championship glory.

The Q&S Motors mechanic currently lies in third place in the overall standings and knows that he has to win the final round and hope that rival Tim Percey finishes in third place or lower to stand a realistic chance of lifting the crown.   That scenario would guarantee the 23 year old the crown no matter where the remaining two title contenders, Allan McDowall and Steve Magson finish on the day.
.
Collister comes into the event on the back of some morale boosting results,

including victory on the last round of the championship in Scotland and a fine debut performance on the Tour of Mull Rally where he finished in a creditable 33rd overall.   Prior to competing on the Isle of Mull based event the Indigo Commercial Properties Escort MKII’s engine under went a full rebuild.   The Motivation Engineering power plant ran well on the Tour of Mull and has enabled the team to concentrate on ensuring the rest of the car is ready for the Bulldog Rally.

As usual on the event George will be co-driven by fellow Manx Motorsport Youth Trust recipient, Mexperience.com / Manx Gas / Integrated Capabilities supported Rob Fagg (Port Erin).   Rob goes into the event also with a chance of winning the co-drivers title.   Victory on the final round would confirm him as the 2004 champion on tie break if needed but he is not thinking of that going into the event.

“It is good to be going into the final round with a chance of winning the championship, but for George and me to even have a chance we must finish the final round” commented Rob, “If we achieve that, then we will see how the championship ends up.   No matter what happens it has been a great year and is good for the championship to have a four way fight right to the end.”

The Bulldog Clubman Rally starts at approx. 12:30 on Saturday with the first car expected to finish back in Shrewsbury, at approximately 18:30.   The clubman crews will tackle 45 miles of stages, comprising 5 stages in the Mid-Wales forests.
