Fagg hopes for change in fortune

Manx Motorsport Youth Trust supported Robert Fagg will be competing in the penultimate round of the Ford Rallye Sport Ka Championship next weekend, the Mewla National Rally.
The event will see him sit alongside fellow youth trust recipient Andrew Leece, due to his regular partner Richard Skinner suffering a recurring back injury.   As we have reported Robert has competed on every round of the championship this year with different drivers and varied success.

The Mewla is the third tarmac round of the championship and takes place on the Epynt Military Ranges in Mid-Wales.   This will be a first for both crew members neither having competed on Epynt before.   The opportunity to recce the day before the event will allow Andrew to familiarise himself with the stages as well as checking the pace notes ahead of the event.

Andrew goes into the event on the back of some fine stage times on the last round, his home event, the Manx Trophy.   He was actually leading the event at the point of retirement by 39 seconds from nearest challenger David Crossen.   On this occasion the cause of retirement was an engine failure and proved deeply disappointing for the crew, but proved he could take on the front runners in the championship.

Robert retired from the rally on the first leg of the event when he rolled out while partnering reigning 205 Challenge Champion Eliot Retalick.

Although Jonnie Wigmore has already won the Junior Championship, the fight for runners up spot is by no means over.   Andrew lies in 5th place, 12 points behind Innes Clark who currently holds onto 2nd.   Also in the hunt for the runners up spot are Niki Cleland and Stephen Petch, this could go down to the final round.
